Yemen’s Minister of Industry Emphasizes the Need for Arab Support in Sustainable Development
Minister Highlights Urgent Development Needs
Mohammed Al-Ashwal, Yemen’s Minister of Industry and Trade, stressed the critical role of Arab support in advancing sustainable development in Yemen. The country currently faces exceptional challenges that require a unified effort from both Arab and regional partners.
During his address at the 117th session of the Economic and Social Council, held at the Arab League headquarters, Al-Ashwal outlined the dire situation in Yemen. He pointed out the numerous challenges the Yemeni people face, particularly in the economic and developmental sectors. He called for effective Arab support to meet urgent developmental needs and to strengthen institutional capacities.
A New Phase for Yemen
Al-Ashwal noted that Yemen is on the brink of a new phase, with the announcement of a new government imminent. This government will confront immediate challenges, including restoring stability and improving living conditions and services. He urged Arab nations, organizations, and specialized funds to provide knowledge, technical, and programmatic support to Yemen. He emphasized the importance of leveraging accumulated Arab expertise to enhance the Yemeni government’s ability to implement its economic and developmental policies.
Appreciation for Regional Leadership
The Minister expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Algerian presidency during the current session, commending its wise management. He also acknowledged the previous leadership of Tunisia and thanked Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, along with the council’s secretariat, for their organizational and professional efforts in preparing for the session.
