Today, Yemen led an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives. The session focused on discussing the urgent provision of aid to the Republic of Lebanon, which is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis.
Under the leadership of Yemen’s Acting Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Dr. Ali Musa, the meeting addressed the pressing needs of displaced individuals and refugees in Lebanon. The representatives acknowledged the difficult circumstances that the Lebanese people are enduring and emphasized the necessity for immediate assistance.
Ambassador Musa reaffirmed Yemen’s unwavering support for Lebanon, both for its government and its citizens. He condemned the escalating Israeli aggression, which has resulted in hundreds of casualties, including women and children, and led to the displacement of tens of thousands of Lebanese citizens. Musa stressed Yemen’s full backing for Lebanon in its struggle against this aggression.
The ambassador held Israel accountable for the dangerous escalation of violence. He warned that the ongoing aggression could spark a comprehensive regional war, jeopardizing the security and stability of the entire region. Musa called for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in halting the violence.
Musa highlighted that Lebanon is currently experiencing one of the most perilous phases in its history, with approximately one million people displaced due to the destructive war initiated by Israel. The brutal Israeli attacks have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis and worsened the country’s already acute economic and social challenges. These issues have placed immense pressure on limited resources and essential services, making the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure and the provision of urgent humanitarian support top priorities.
The ambassador asserted that the Israeli aggression constitutes a blatant violation of international charters and laws, including the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the sovereignty of an independent state. He described this aggression as a continued disregard for international law and United Nations resolutions aimed at halting hostilities and protecting civilians.
Musa emphasized that the Israeli aggression poses a serious threat to peace and security in the region. He urged immediate international action to de-escalate the situation and called on the global community to take tangible steps to end the violence and ensure accountability for Israel’s repeated violations of international law. Furthermore, he supported Lebanon’s demands for sustainable stability in southern Lebanon through the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to put an end to ongoing Israeli violations and aggression against Lebanese territory.
The meeting underscored the urgent need for collective action to address the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon and to restore peace and security in the region. The Arab League’s commitment to supporting Lebanon during this critical time remains strong, as nations come together to advocate for the rights and safety of the Lebanese people.
