Washington vows to maintain pressure on Houthis for the release of UN staff and diplomatic mission members.

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to exert pressure on the Houthi militia through all available channels to secure the release of United Nations employees, diplomatic mission staff, and international organization workers who have been detained in its prisons for over a month.

This statement was made by State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a press conference, details of which were shared by the U.S. Embassy in Yemen on the social media platform “X”.

Miller called on the Houthis to “release all detainees from the United Nations, non-governmental organizations, and diplomatic missions who were arrested last month.” He condemned the “unlawful arrests carried out by the Houthis,” stating that such actions alienate the international community, complicate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and jeopardize the Yemeni peace process.

Miller emphasized that “we will not rest until all detainees are released,” noting that Secretary of State Antony Blinken has discussed the matter with regional partners and several countries to persuade the Houthis to release these workers.

He highlighted that the United States will continue to pressure the Houthi militia through every available channel to ensure the release of all detained employees.

In recent weeks, the Houthi militias have launched a widespread kidnapping campaign that has targeted dozens of workers in UN, international, and local organizations, later releasing video recordings of the captives, accusing them of spying for foreign entities.
