The leadership of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, in collaboration with local authorities in the Socotra Archipelago, acted swiftly to unload the cargo of the commercial vessel “Zulfiqar” (MADINA ZULFICAR). The ship encountered severe technical damage while approaching Socotra Port, placing it at risk of sinking.
The vessel, a general cargo ship with a capacity of 700 tons, arrived at Socotra Port from Khalid Port in Sharjah. It was carrying a diverse shipment of food supplies, consumer goods, and various merchandise, totaling 522 tons. Additionally, the ship had 12 vehicles on board and was manned by a crew of nine Indian sailors.
Upon arrival, the ship sustained holes at both the bow and stern, leading to seawater flooding its interior. This situation prompted urgent action to prevent the vessel from sinking, which could have caused significant damage to navigation as well as public and private property. The limited space at Socotra Port, compounded by the presence of several other vessels, heightened the urgency of the response.
According to maritime sources, authorities issued directives to expedite the unloading process and stabilize the situation. This coordinated effort between the coalition leadership, local authorities, and relevant agencies significantly reduced risks and ensured the safety of maritime operations within the port.
The successful collaboration highlights the importance of quick and effective responses in maritime emergencies. The actions taken not only safeguarded the vessel but also ensured the continued safety of Socotra Port’s operations. For more information, visit Yemen TV.
