The United Nations has announced the displacement of approximately 1,790 Yemeni families over the past two days. This surge in displacement follows a military escalation initiated by Houthi militia on Thursday morning, which included intense shelling of residential areas and displacement sites in Taiz Governorate.
According to a report from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), renewed clashes in the regions of Maqbana and Jabal Habashi have triggered widespread displacement from hosting sites and nearby villages. Most families have relocated within the two districts, while others have reached areas such as Al-Maafir, Al-Shamayatayn, Mawza, and Dhubab.
The report highlights the complete evacuation of displacement sites, including Al-Hajb and Al-Rajhi. A second wave of displacement has occurred, with some families remaining trapped in conflict zones due to ongoing shelling.
The report provides a breakdown of the displacement as follows:
The report emphasizes that displaced families urgently require shelter, food, and non-food items.
In Al-Hudaydah, official sources report that dozens of families have fled from northern and eastern Hays to the city and its southern countryside, as well as to Al-Khawkhah.
The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation has issued an urgent appeal to humanitarian organizations. The ministry warns of a rapid deterioration in the humanitarian situation due to the Houthi escalation in Taiz and Al-Hudaydah. It calls for the provision of shelter, food, and medicine, as well as the establishment of field hospitals and the securing of drinking water and sanitation facilities to prevent disease outbreaks in displacement camps.
The situation remains critical as the conflict continues to displace families and strain humanitarian resources in Yemen.
