On Sunday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a cargo ship issued a distress call after facing an attack from unknown armed assailants. The incident occurred approximately 30 nautical miles southwest of Al Hudaydah.
According to UKMTO, the ship’s security officer reported that several small boats approached, carrying individuals armed with light weapons. In response, the crew took refuge in the citadel, a secure area designed for protection. Fortunately, the crew remains safe.
UKMTO has initiated an investigation into the incident. The authority urges vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities.
This attack follows a previous report received by UKMTO on Wednesday regarding a maritime incident located 76 nautical miles south of Balhaf in eastern Yemen. The region has experienced ongoing security tensions, prompting international agencies to issue repeated warnings to commercial vessels.
