Two hundred illegal migrants have arrived on the shores of Shabwa via the Arabian Sea.

200 Ethiopian Migrants Arrive on Shabwa Coast

On Sunday, a group of 200 Ethiopian migrants reached the Kida coast in the Al-Ain district of the Shabwa governorate. This event marks the latest wave of irregular migration flowing into Yemen’s shores via the Arabian Sea.

Details of the Arrival

According to the police in the Al-Ain district, the migrants arrived on a smuggling boat named “Al-Farouq,” accompanied by five Somali sailors. The police reported that most of the newcomers are adult males.

Security Measures and Challenges

The police confirmed that they continue to implement available legal measures to manage the situation, despite limited resources. They noted that the influx of irregular migration imposes increasing security, social, and economic burdens that exceed the capabilities of local authorities.

Call for Enhanced International Support

Security agencies urged government bodies and international organizations to bolster support in addressing the issue of irregular migration and to mitigate its flow. This phenomenon poses challenges to security, stability, and public services in the governorate, with negative repercussions for the overall situation in the country.

Current Migration Trends to Yemen

Yemen’s eastern and southern coasts, particularly in Shabwa, serve as significant entry points for migrants from the Horn of Africa. Smuggling operations via boats occur frequently.

Recent data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) indicates that Yemen received 83,835 African migrants during the first five months of this year, with the majority being Ethiopian nationals.
