Yemen's Transport Minister Discusses Advancements in Civil Aviation and Meteorology

Efforts to Enhance Airport Operations in Aden

In a significant meeting held in the temporary capital, Aden, Dr. Abdul Salam Humaid, Yemen’s Minister of Transport, engaged in comprehensive discussions focusing on the advancements of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology. The main agenda was to address the development of liberated airports and the organization of air traffic movement. The meeting saw the participation of key figures, including the Deputy Minister of Transport for Air Transport, Engineer Tariq Abdu, along with the President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology, Captain Saleh bin Nahid, and other senior officials.

Strategic Developments and Collaborations

The assembly reviewed the Authority’s activities, highlighting its efforts to overcome challenges and implement a series of projects and plans slated for the current year. Notably, it covered the contributions of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen at Aden International Airport. The discussions extended to evaluating the procurement of equipment and arrangements for maintenance hangars and ground handling services at Aden Airport.

Minister Humaid urged the aviation authority and Aden Airport’s leadership to persist in completing the ongoing projects in collaboration with the Saudi Program, especially focusing on the runway and air navigation aids. He emphasized the ministry’s ongoing efforts to expedite the fencing of the future Aden Airport and the preparations for inaugurating Ataq Airport, following the tender award and the commencement of work by the executing agency.

Improving Services Across Yemeni Airports

The Transport Minister directed attention towards enhancing services at Al Rayyan and Socotra airports as part of the strategic development projects under the Ministry of Transport’s strategic plan. These initiatives align with the government’s goals to rebuild institutions and improve community services.

Regulatory and International Relations

Minister Humaid stressed the importance of the Civil Aviation Authority exercising its full range of duties and responsibilities as the state’s aviation authority in Yemen. He highlighted the need to strengthen relationships with regional and international organizations, reflecting the legitimate government of Yemen recognized globally. Additionally, he pointed out the facilitation provided to investors in the air transport sector, including the licensing of companies and travel agencies, adhering to legal regulations and international safety and security standards.

Ongoing Projects and Teamwork

The President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology shared insights into the progress of various projects, both completed and under implementation. He underscored the Authority’s efforts in professional, technical, and administrative fields, driven by teamwork to address challenges in compliance with existing laws and regulations.

This meeting underscores Yemen’s commitment to enhancing its civil aviation sector, overcoming obstacles, and improving airport services, marking a significant step towards the development and modernization of its transportation infrastructure.
