Meeting Highlights Cooperation and Airport Readiness
Today, in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Transport Dr. Abdul Salam Hamid met with the technical team from Royal Jordanian Airlines to discuss collaboration between Yemen and Jordan. The focus of the meeting centered on the potential resumption of Royal Jordanian flights to Yemen, signaling a positive step towards enhancing air travel in the region.
During the meeting, Minister Hamid emphasized the strong ties that bind the two nations. He highlighted the current state of stability and security in Aden, noting that the city is prepared to welcome international flights. The readiness of Aden International Airport and other airports in liberated provinces has significantly improved, both technically and in terms of security.
Minister Hamid outlined the efforts made by the Ministry of Transport and the General Authority for Civil Aviation to normalize conditions and operate airports effectively. He discussed the compliance of these airports with international standards and the successful resumption of domestic flights. The minister also acknowledged the challenges faced by Yemenia Airlines following the Houthi conflict, particularly in meeting the growing demand for both domestic and international flights.
The Minister reiterated his invitation to all airlines and aviation agents from friendly nations to support the community’s needs. He expressed hopes for broader coordination in air travel. Furthermore, he confirmed ongoing preparations to upgrade the runways at Aden Airport, supported by the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction in Yemen. Recently, the foundation stone for a new aircraft maintenance and engineering center was laid, underscoring the commitment to enhancing the aviation sector.
In response, the technical team from Royal Jordanian Airlines expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality they received. They praised the stable security conditions in Aden and commended the technical, security, and professional readiness of Aden International Airport. The team confirmed their willingness to provide expertise and services to airports in liberated areas, aiming to expedite the resumption of Royal Jordanian flights to Yemen.
This meeting marks a significant step towards revitalizing air travel in Yemen, fostering stronger ties between the two nations, and enhancing connectivity in the region.
