Recent reports indicate a troubling increase in traffic accidents across the liberated provinces, with a total of 16 incidents occurring in a brief timeframe. These accidents resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals and left seven others injured. This surge in traffic incidents coincides with the arrest of 55 suspects linked to 47 criminal cases, according to official statements from the Ministry of Interior.
The General Traffic Police have provided details regarding these accidents, which include ten collisions, five incidents involving pedestrians, and one rollover. The estimated financial losses resulting from these accidents amount to approximately 9 million and 750 thousand riyals. The province of Marib recorded the highest number of accidents, with eight incidents that led to fatalities and serious injuries. Following Marib, the coastal province of Hadramout reported four accidents, while Taiz recorded two incidents. Both Al-Mahra and Abyan experienced one accident each, with the Abyan incident unfortunately resulting in a fatality and severe injuries.
In response to these alarming events, the Traffic Police have urged all drivers to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and to avoid speeding in order to protect lives and property. Security forces are actively working to enhance safety measures and combat crime within these liberated areas.
In a related development, the General Directorate of Leadership and Control announced the apprehension of 55 suspects involved in various criminal activities. Among the recorded incidents were 14 cases of minor intentional harm, eight thefts, and five cases of breach of trust. Additionally, law enforcement has addressed incidents related to property assault, threats, drug possession, and indecent acts.
Marib and Hadramout emerged as the provinces with the highest number of criminal cases, each reporting eight incidents. The province of Al-Dhale’ followed closely with seven cases, while Aden reported six and Lahij five. Other provinces, including Taiz, Hajjah, Shabwa, Abyan, and Al-Hudaydah, reported varying numbers of criminal cases, underscoring the urgent need for improved security and justice in these regions.
The Ministry of Interior remains resolute in its commitment to improving traffic safety and public security in the liberated provinces. Through intensified public awareness campaigns and regulatory measures, the ministry aims to reduce the frequency of traffic accidents and mitigate crime.
