The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented 21 crimes and violations committed by Houthi militias in Taiz Governorate over the past 24 hours. This escalation coincided with the ongoing siege imposed on the governorate, which restricts civilian movement and access to essential supplies.
The network reported that the violations included killings and injuries from shelling and sniper fire, abduction of citizens, and their detention in unknown locations. Additionally, the militias raided and looted homes, targeted residential neighborhoods and public roads, and recruited young individuals from marginalized communities.
The report highlighted the deaths of two children, including Ammar Yasser Al-Sharahi, who the militias abducted from his home in the Al-Akmah village in the Sabir area before finding him murdered. Three civilians, including two women, sustained injuries, while four citizens were abducted. The militias also raided and looted three homes, damaging seven others, two of which were completely destroyed.
Houthi shelling and sniper fire targeted the villages of Kahlān, Al-Shuqab, the Old Airport neighborhood, and residential areas in Al-Dabab, as well as the village of Mihal and Najd Qasim. This bombardment instilled fear and panic among residents, particularly affecting children and women.
In the Sabir Al-Mawadim district, the network documented the targeting of two homes in Kahlān village with mortar shells, causing material damage and the death of several livestock, though no human injuries were reported.
The network also observed recruitment efforts targeting young individuals from marginalized communities in the Samqa area of the Al-Ma’afir district. These individuals were enrolled in cultural and training courses in preparation for deployment to combat fronts in the southern part of the governorate. The network warned against the continued exploitation of this demographic and the recruitment of children.
The network issued an urgent appeal to the international community to take action to protect civilians in Taiz. They called for an end to the bombardment of residential areas and health facilities, the lifting of the siege, and the opening of roads to ensure the flow of food, medicine, fuel, and cooking gas.
Furthermore, the network demanded immediate humanitarian and health responses to support hospitals with medical supplies and chronic disease medications, facilitate the transfer of critical cases, and hold those responsible for the violations accountable through independent and transparent investigations.
