In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Major General Dr. Qaid Atef, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Human Resources and Financial Affairs, engaged with Marine Kaidom, a representative from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
During the meeting, Major General Atef addressed the threats posed by the Houthi militia to global peace and security. He highlighted the extensive destruction of infrastructure resulting from ongoing conflict. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to various agreements, particularly regarding the reception of refugees and the provision of necessary support within available resources.
Both parties underscored the importance of regular meetings between the Ministry of Interior and the UNHCR. They emphasized the necessity of supporting the Yemeni government in fulfilling its humanitarian and ethical responsibilities towards refugees of diverse nationalities.
The meeting also included key figures such as Mohammed Rafiq Nasri, Head of the UNHCR Office in Aden, Liz Farias, Protection Officer at the UNHCR, and Ma’mar Alwan, Field Officer at the UNHCR. Additionally, Brigadier General Faisal Mathna Saleh, Assistant Director of Security in Aden, participated in the discussions.
This meeting marks a crucial step in enhancing cooperation between the Yemeni authorities and international organizations to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis and ensure the safety of refugees in Yemen.
