In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Dr. Abdul Salam Hamid, Yemen’s Minister of Transport, engaged with Zhao Cheng, the Charge d’Affaires of the People’s Republic of China in Yemen. The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring the benefits of Chinese investments in various transport sectors.
The meeting, attended by Captain Ali Al-Sabhi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime Affairs and Ports, highlighted previous agreements between Yemen and China. These agreements primarily concern the development of infrastructure in ports, airports, and road networks, as well as ongoing Chinese projects in several liberated provinces.
Minister Hamid emphasized the urgent need for support from China for Yemen’s liberated ports, airports, and roadways. He pointed out the extensive damage these facilities suffered due to the war instigated by Houthi militias. The Minister presented Yemen’s strategic geographical location and investment opportunities, which could benefit both nations.
Hamid expressed his hope for increased Chinese support, both humanitarian and investment-related. He outlined critical needs in the transport sector, including enhancing the capabilities of Aden and Mukalla ports, establishing direct shipping routes between Chinese ports and Yemen, and providing the General Authority for Maritime Affairs with safety equipment and pollution monitoring tools.
In response, Zhao Cheng reaffirmed the deep-rooted relationship and partnership between China and Yemen. He noted the successful implementation of various projects across multiple sectors. Zhao reiterated China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and supporting the Yemeni government’s efforts toward peace and reconstruction.
This meeting marks a pivotal step in fostering collaboration between Yemen and China, aiming to revitalize the transport infrastructure essential for Yemen’s recovery and development.
