On October 3, 2024, Governor Nabil Shamsan of Taiz Province officially inaugurated the Al-Mokha Water Project. The event took place in collaboration with Nasser Bajil, the first deputy head of the National Resistance Political Bureau. This significant initiative emerged from a partnership between the humanitarian operations cell of the National Resistance and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
During the inauguration ceremony, Governor Shamsan extended his congratulations to the residents of Al-Mokha. He highlighted the project’s importance, which aims to provide clean water to the city after 38 months of construction. The project, which cost approximately 6 billion Yemeni rials, will benefit around 120,000 people, including both locals and newcomers to the area. Governor Shamsan emphasized the local authority’s commitment to ensuring access to clean water, with support from council member Brigadier General Tariq Saleh.
Governor Shamsan praised the contributions of various organizations that played a crucial role in the project’s success. He expressed gratitude to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the IOM, the humanitarian cell, and the governments of Germany and Japan, along with other donors. Their collective efforts made this strategic project a reality. Additionally, he mentioned ongoing work on the Zayed Water Project in Taiz Province, which is set to launch soon.
This new water initiative represents a significant step towards improving public health and quality of life for the residents of Al-Mokha, reinforcing the commitment to sustainable development in Yemen.
