In a significant development for the healthcare sector, the Supreme Medical Council convened a meeting today in Aden, the temporary capital, presided over by the Council’s President, Dr. Omar Zain Al-Saqqaf. The gathering was aimed at discussing various topics related to the Council’s operations and its action plan for the upcoming period.
During the meeting, the Council reviewed reports from its President and Secretary-General covering the achievements between the last two sessions. Extensive discussions were held on the reports from the primary committees, focusing on their readiness to commence their designated tasks. These tasks span across various committees including evaluation, equivalency, classification, registration, practice permits, investigation, accountability, development, and continuing education, along with the drafting of the executive regulations.
Furthermore, the Council deliberated on the formation of subcommittees in the provinces of Hadramout, Taiz, and Marib, outlining their responsibilities and operational mechanisms.
Dr. Al-Saqqaf emphasized the readiness of the Council’s various committees to receive applications for professional practice permits from different medical and health professions. He indicated that the specialized committees would begin their work from the College of Dentistry at Aden University. Dr. Al-Saqqaf also urged all practitioners to legalize their professional status to ensure compliance with the regulations.
This meeting marks a pivotal step towards enhancing the regulatory framework and professional standards within the healthcare sector in Yemen, reflecting the Council’s commitment to improving medical services and professional practices across the nation.
