On Saturday, Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani, the Speaker of the Yemeni Parliament, and Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, the Chairman of the Shura Council, participated in the Eighth Arab Parliament Conference. This significant event took place at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt.
The conference gathered leaders from various Arab legislative bodies to discuss pressing issues. Key topics included the developments in the Palestinian cause, ongoing Iranian aggressions against Gulf nations and several Arab states, as well as security challenges and regional transformations. Another focal point was the initiative to enhance Arab digital sovereignty.
In his address, Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani emphasized that the Arab nation faces a critical phase that necessitates unified stances and strengthened Arab cooperation. He highlighted the escalating conflicts and expansionist projects in the region, reiterating the dangers posed by Iranian ambitions. Al-Barakani stressed the urgent need for a joint Arab defense and deterrence system to safeguard the sovereignty and national security of Arab states.
Al-Barakani asserted that the Palestinian issue remains the core of the regional conflict. He described the plight of the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, as a humanitarian tragedy and a moral test for the international community.
Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, in his remarks, pointed out that the Arab nation faces existential challenges that require enhanced solidarity and improved mechanisms for joint action. He noted that Iranian interventions and Israeli occupation pose direct threats to Arab national security. Bin Daghr highlighted Yemen’s vulnerability to Iranian influence, particularly through support for the Houthi militia. He expressed gratitude for the support from the Arab Coalition led by Saudi Arabia in protecting Yemen and preventing state collapse.
The conference featured speeches from several prominent figures, including Mohammed Ahmed al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, and Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Sheikh, President of the Saudi Shura Council. Their addresses reinforced the importance of Arab solidarity and unified positions on shared issues, particularly the Palestinian cause, national security, and digital sovereignty.
The conference also saw participation from Deputy Chairmen of the Shura Council, Dr. Abdullah Abu al-Ghaith and Engineer Wahi Aman, along with members of both the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, including Abdulwahab Maawda, Insaf Mayo, and Alawi al-Basha.
