On Tuesday, Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani, the Speaker of the Parliament, met with Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brek and members of the Parliament’s leadership, including engineers Mohammed al-Shadadi and Mohsen Basra. The meeting focused on current national developments and key government priorities.
During the meeting, participants highlighted the importance of close cooperation between the legislative and executive branches. They discussed enhancing oversight roles to support anti-corruption efforts and address essential citizen needs in living conditions and services. The group also called for the swift formation of the Supreme Committee for Tenders and Auctions, along with an Anti-Corruption Authority. They stressed the need for genuine economic reforms through urgent, objective measures aligned with established standards. Additionally, they planned to prepare the state budget and final accounts for presentation to Parliament in the upcoming weeks.
The Speaker of Parliament underscored the significance of government actions aimed at overcoming crises and correcting existing issues. He emphasized the need for harmonious performance among various state bodies, including political, legislative, and executive institutions, as well as oversight agencies. He reiterated support for the government and the additional measures required to tackle political, economic, and security challenges. Furthermore, he praised the government’s initiatives to stabilize currency exchange rates, provide services, improve citizens’ living standards, and uphold the rule of law.
In response, the Prime Minister provided the Parliament leadership with an overview of the political, economic, service, military, and security situations. He discussed the ongoing comprehensive reforms and addressed both existing and emerging challenges, particularly the economic situation. He emphasized that fundamental reforms require achieving relative stability in the national economy as a preliminary step.
The Prime Minister welcomed the Parliament’s active oversight of government performance and expressed his desire for close collaboration between the government and various constitutional institutions. He stressed that such cooperation would enhance overall performance, benefiting the nation and improving citizens’ daily lives.
The Parliament leadership urged the Prime Minister to prepare for the upcoming council session. They emphasized the necessity of reforming conditions, combating corruption, enforcing laws, and connecting with citizens’ lives. They also highlighted the importance of providing services and safeguarding public funds and national wealth.
