Prime Minister Visits Ministry of Industry and Trade to Enhance Economic Reforms

On Thursday, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the Prime Minister of Yemen, visited the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the temporary capital, Aden. The visit aimed to assess the ministry’s progress on government priorities within the reform program and its services to the commercial and industrial sectors. Additionally, the Prime Minister reviewed the ministry’s efforts in monitoring various commercial and consumer goods.

Welcoming Reception from Ministry Officials

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister received a warm welcome from Minister of Industry and Trade, Mohammed Al-Ashwal, and his deputy, Salem Salman, along with several ministry leaders.

Inspection of Ministry Operations

During his visit, Dr. bin Mubarak toured several departments within the ministry. He observed the procedures for registering companies, trademarks, and foreign agency branches. He emphasized the need to simplify these processes to better support the private sector’s involvement in economic reforms. The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of completing the ministry’s electronic portal and enhancing the data and information database.

Engagement with Ministry Directors

The Prime Minister listened to presentations from general directors and specialists within the ministry. They provided insights into their roles in consumer protection, industrial development, and support for entrepreneurs. Additionally, they discussed the services offered to investors, traders, and manufacturers, highlighting efforts to promote small industries and create a conducive environment for registering commercial and industrial activities.

Visit to the Public Prosecution Office

Dr. bin Mubarak also visited the Public Prosecution Office for Industry and Trade. He received a briefing from acting prosecutor, Judge Soumaya Al-Qabati, regarding the office’s efforts to combat commercial fraud and ensure compliance with specifications and standards for goods and medicines. The prosecutor outlined the collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to address challenges facing the commercial sector.

Meeting on Ministry Initiatives

Following his visits, the Prime Minister held a meeting with the Minister of Industry and Trade and his deputy. They reviewed the ministry’s role in domestic trade, consumer protection, and modernization programs aimed at improving overall performance. The discussion focused on enhancing transparency, combating corruption, and alleviating citizens’ hardships.

Strategic Planning for Effective Oversight

The meeting also covered the ministry’s plans for effective oversight of supply and pricing, collaborating with traders to ensure adequate strategic reserves of essential goods. They discussed promoting national production, boosting exports, and strengthening partnerships with the private sector. The importance of fostering relationships with international organizations involved in the industrial and commercial sectors was also highlighted, along with expediting the establishment of industrial zones.

Positive Feedback on Ministry Performance

Dr. bin Mubarak praised the ministry’s commendable performance and its potential to establish a successful partnership with the private sector. He encouraged a shift from consumer-oriented investments to productive investments that support entrepreneurs. The Prime Minister reiterated the ministry’s responsibility to implement measures that protect citizens’ interests and the national economy.

The Prime Minister was accompanied during his visit by the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Engineer Anis Baharitha, and the Prime Minister’s advisor, Ambassador Mujib Othman.

This visit underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the business environment and promoting economic growth through effective partnerships with the private sector.
