Prime Minister Monitors Launch of New Academic Year

On Sunday, Prime Minister Dr. Sha’if Mohsen Al-Zandani observed the commencement of the 2026-2027 academic year from the temporary capital, Aden. This event marks the return of students to both public and private schools across Aden and other liberated provinces.

Updates on Educational Preparations

During the event, Prime Minister Al-Zandani received a report from Minister of Education Dr. Adel Al-Abadi. The report detailed the preparations for the new academic year and the efforts to ensure a stable educational process in various provinces.

Al-Zandani emphasized that the start of the academic year represents a significant national milestone. It embodies the hopes of millions of students and their families for a brighter future. He stressed that the success of the educational process relies on the collaborative efforts of the government, the Ministry of Education, local authorities, educational staff, and the community.

Acknowledging Educational Efforts

The Prime Minister praised the dedication of the Ministry of Education’s leadership, its administrative and educational staff, and all teachers who continue to fulfill their national and humanitarian duties despite the challenging circumstances facing the country. He affirmed that the resilience of teachers and the continuity of education are crucial for safeguarding the future of generations and building the state.

Review of Examination Results

Additionally, the Prime Minister discussed the outcomes of an extraordinary meeting of the Higher Examination Committee, which took place to review the final reports on the results of the general secondary examinations. The committee addressed the announcement of top-performing students and examined the circumstances surrounding the release of these results.

The committee confirmed that student Ruwa Mahmud Sheikh achieved the highest score in Al-Mahra Governorate, with a rate of 99.25%. Her name did not appear in the initial announcement due to a technical error in the central computer system, linked to an outdated administrative procedure that separated the lists of incoming students from the national list.

Recognition of Academic Excellence

Minister Al-Abadi announced that the committee also decided to honor student Shahd Othman Said Othman Bahshwan, who scored 98.38%, by including her in the list of outstanding students. Furthermore, the committee addressed the case of student Majid Najib Muhammad from Lahij Governorate, who is visually impaired. They confirmed that his results would not be annulled, and they would rectify his legal status to ensure he is recognized within the visually impaired category, as he achieved the highest score in this group.

Commitment to Fairness in Education

Prime Minister Al-Zandani reiterated that fairness in education begins with clear and just standards. He stated that any administrative or technical errors should not result in injustice against any student or diminish the recognition of their hard work and achievements. He directed the continued review of procedures and regulations to enhance integrity and transparency, ensuring equal opportunities for all students.

Ensuring Trust in Educational Institutions

The Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Ministry of Education, the Higher Examination Committee, and the supervisory and executive committees in successfully managing the examination process and announcing the results. He highlighted the importance of addressing any observations or discrepancies responsibly and transparently to strengthen the trust of students and their families in state institutions.

In response, Minister Al-Abadi expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s direct involvement in the educational process and the results of the secondary examinations. He assured that the ministry would continue to enhance the examination system, uphold standards of integrity and transparency, and address any irregularities to protect students’ rights and recognize their achievements.
