Prime Minister Receives UNICEF Representative in Yemen

Today, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak welcomed Peter Hawkins, the UNICEF representative in Yemen, to discuss critical humanitarian efforts in the country.

UNICEF’s Interventions in Yemen

During the meeting, Prime Minister bin Mubarak learned about UNICEF’s ongoing interventions in Yemen. These initiatives include unconditional cash transfers aimed at supporting the most vulnerable populations. The discussion also covered the mechanisms for distributing these funds, enhancing social protection, and preventing malnutrition in densely populated areas.

Challenges in Humanitarian Work

The conversation shifted to the significant challenges facing humanitarian operations, particularly in regions controlled by Houthi militias. Prime Minister bin Mubarak highlighted the alarming issue of Houthi forces detaining humanitarian workers, which severely hampers aid efforts.

Government Commitment to Humanitarian Efforts

Throughout the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to improving living conditions for all citizens across Yemen. He emphasized the need for increased pressure on Houthi militias to release all detained humanitarian workers. Furthermore, he assured UNICEF and other international organizations of the government’s readiness to facilitate their operations in the temporary capital, Aden, and to extend services to all regions of Yemen.

Meeting Attendees

The meeting also included the presence of Ambassador Mujib Othman, an advisor to the Prime Minister, who contributed to the discussions on enhancing humanitarian efforts in Yemen.

This meeting underscores the ongoing collaboration between the Yemeni government and international organizations to address the pressing humanitarian crisis in the country.
