Field Survey Launch
Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brek has instructed government ministries to initiate the field survey for the unconditional cash transfer project. This initiative follows an improved program design implemented by UNICEF, with funding from the World Bank.
Meeting Highlights
During a meeting held in Aden, the temporary capital, on Thursday, the Prime Minister convened leaders from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the Social Development Fund, and the Social Welfare Fund. The discussion focused on the ongoing arrangements for launching the "Support" program, which aims to provide unconditional cash transfers to the most vulnerable and needy populations across Yemen, based on new criteria.
Project Goals and Coordination
The meeting addressed proposals to expedite the project, which targets 500,000 Yemeni families. Participants discussed coordination mechanisms with UNICEF, taking into account the challenges posed by displacement due to the ongoing conflict with Houthi militias. They also emphasized the importance of considering the quality and geographical targeting within the new program.
Government Readiness and Aid Distribution
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s readiness to inform UNICEF about the project’s commencement. He stressed the need for distributing international and humanitarian aid based on current needs, population distribution, and the changes resulting from displacement from Houthi-controlled areas.
This initiative represents a significant step towards addressing the urgent needs of vulnerable families in Yemen, ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most.
