Aden, Yemen – On Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr. Salem Saleh Bin Brek welcomed Gabriel Vinales, the head of the European Union mission, along with several EU ambassadors accredited to Yemen. The meeting took place in Aden, the temporary capital, and focused on the latest developments in local, regional, and international contexts.
During the discussions, the leaders addressed the economic repercussions of the ongoing conflict instigated by the Houthi militia. They highlighted the continued halt of oil exports and its adverse effects on living conditions and humanitarian situations in Yemen. The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing an economic recovery plan and tackling complex challenges.
Dr. Bin Brek underscored the significance of the strategic partnership with the European Union. He praised the ongoing support from the EU and called for enhanced international assistance programs. These programs should align with current reforms in public finance, improve resource management, expand partnerships with the private sector, and combat corruption.
In response, the European ambassadors reaffirmed their support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. They noted that this visit symbolizes a collective message of support for the government’s efforts. The ambassadors also emphasized the importance of coordinating to identify priority areas for assistance, which will contribute to economic stability and alleviate humanitarian suffering.
