Prime Minister Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak Leads Key Meeting on Infrastructure Development

On Sunday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak convened a significant meeting at the Ministry of Public Works and Roads in the temporary capital of Aden. The session brought together the leadership of the ministry, the Road Maintenance Fund, and the General Authority for Roads and Bridges.

Comprehensive Discussions on Infrastructure Challenges

The meeting featured extensive discussions and evaluations regarding the current procedures related to the ministry’s operations and the institutions under its umbrella. Participants focused on enhancing coordination and integration to effectively execute their legal, professional, and service-related tasks. They reviewed ongoing and completed projects, the regulations governing freight truck scales, and proposed strategies for optimal revenue utilization for road maintenance, in collaboration with local authorities.

Commitment to Urban Development and Infrastructure Preservation

Participants also highlighted ongoing efforts to preserve and develop road infrastructure and urban development. They emphasized the importance of strengthening communication with Yemen’s international partners, including friendly nations and donor organizations, to support road projects, rehabilitation, maintenance, and urban development initiatives.

Updates on Performance and Project Progress

Dr. Mohammed Thabet, the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Roads, along with officials from the Road Maintenance Fund and the General Authority for Roads and Bridges, provided updates on performance levels and the development plans currently in preparation. They addressed stalled projects, identified the reasons for delays, and proposed appropriate solutions to ensure ongoing road maintenance efforts in Aden and liberated governorates.

Prime Minister Stresses Teamwork and Transparency

Prime Minister Bin Mubarak urged participants to foster teamwork and coordination, addressing any discrepancies that could hinder performance efficiency. He reiterated the importance of transparency and governance in all technical, financial, and administrative procedures, emphasizing the need for reforms. The Prime Minister called for close collaboration with local authorities and international donors to identify and implement necessary interventions for the projects.

Ensuring Compliance and Safety on Roads

The Prime Minister underscored the critical role of freight scales and adherence to regulatory laws. He stressed the need for a unified approach with local authorities in managing and collecting revenues, as well as implementing measures to control truck weights and penalize violators, thereby ensuring road safety.

Attendance and Follow-Up Actions

The meeting included the presence of Engineer Anis Baharitha, Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, and Jamal Bin Ghanem, Executive Director of the Emergency Response Unit. Earlier, Prime Minister Bin Mubarak conducted a site visit to various sectors and units within the Ministry of Public Works and Roads to assess the progress of activities and programs related to infrastructure maintenance and urban development.

This meeting marks a significant step towards improving Yemen’s infrastructure management and reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing service delivery in the region.
