Prime Minister Meets UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Aden
On Wednesday, Dr. Shaye’ Mohsen Al-Zindani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Laurent Bukera, the Acting UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, in the temporary capital of Aden. The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation and assessing the implementation of humanitarian response plans. Additionally, they discussed strategies for transitioning from emergency relief to sustainable development.
Strengthening Partnerships for Humanitarian Aid
During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the existing partnership between the Yemeni government and UN agencies. They explored ways to overcome challenges faced by international organizations to ensure that aid reaches those in need. The discussion also highlighted the violations committed by Houthi militias against humanitarian efforts, including the ongoing abduction of UN staff and the relocation of UN offices to Aden.
Commitment to Strategic Collaboration
Prime Minister Al-Zindani emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the UN and its various agencies. He noted that this collaboration aligns with the government’s priorities and the needs of its citizens. The Prime Minister also mentioned ongoing economic, administrative, and financial reforms, expressing a desire for increased international support to bolster these efforts. He stressed that successful reforms require genuine partnerships with the international community, focusing on building institutions and enhancing their capabilities to serve the public effectively.
UN’s Support and Coordination Efforts
In response, Bukera praised the Yemeni government’s facilitation of international missions and organizations. He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to mobilizing international support to address the funding gap in the humanitarian response plan. Bukera also highlighted the importance of closely coordinating with the Yemeni government to align humanitarian interventions with the government’s economic recovery priorities.
