The Presidential Leadership Council convened an urgent meeting led by President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi. All council members attended, including Sultan Al-Aradah, Tariq Saleh, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrimi, Dr. Abdullah Alimi, Othman Majali, Mahmoud Al-Sabihi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi. The council discussed the serious implications of Iran’s direct flight to Sanaa Airport, which is under Houthi militia control. This action represents a blatant violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and a direct challenge to international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
During the meeting, the council received briefings from Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Shaea Al-Zandani, along with several ministers and heads of relevant agencies. They highlighted the dangerous escalation that underscores the Houthis’ complete subservience to the Iranian agenda. The council noted that the Houthis prioritize Iranian interests over those of the Yemeni people, using state institutions and resources to further Iran’s destabilizing objectives.
The council emphasized that this violation extends the Houthis’ history of undermining peace efforts. They have consistently rejected regional and international initiatives aimed at ending the war, particularly those led by Saudi Arabia and international partners seeking a lasting peace to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people. Instead of responding positively, the Houthis have intensified military actions, targeting maritime navigation and international trade, which exacerbates the economic and humanitarian crises.
The council holds the Houthis fully accountable for the ongoing blockade affecting Yemenis and the deterioration of living conditions. Their actions have severely damaged the nation’s infrastructure, including ports, airports, and economic facilities, leading to widespread suffering among the population.
The Presidential Leadership Council asserted that this alarming development poses a direct threat not only to Yemen but also to regional and international security. It undermines global efforts to de-escalate tensions and serves as a reminder that Iran continues to violate international law by using armed militias to destabilize the region. The council stressed that any agreements with Iran must include genuine deterrent and accountability mechanisms.
The council reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and exclusive rights to manage its airspace and borders. They pledged to take all necessary political, diplomatic, legal, and security measures permitted under international law to safeguard Yemen’s sovereignty and protect its legitimate institutions.
The council praised Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role and ongoing efforts to end the suffering in Yemen and establish security and stability in the region. They also recognized the contributions of regional and international partners in supporting Yemen’s legitimate institutions, despite facing resistance from the Houthis and their alignment with Iran.
The council warned Iran against continuing its provocative actions, holding both Iran and the Houthi militia fully responsible for the consequences of these violations and any threats to Yemen, the region, and international peace and security.
The council urged the United Nations, the Security Council, and all regional and international partners to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities. They called for a shift from mere condemnation to implementing deterrent measures that halt Iranian violations, tighten oversight on support and funding for the Houthis, and prevent the use of Yemeni territory and airspace for cross-border destructive projects.
The meeting included the presence of Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, along with key ministers such as Moammar Al-Eryani (Media), Major General Ibrahim Haidan (Interior), Lieutenant General Taher Al-Aqili (Defense), Major General Saghir bin Aziz (Chief of Staff), and Major General Mohammed Aida (State Security).
This article highlights the urgent need for international cooperation to address the escalating crisis in Yemen and the implications of Iranian actions on regional stability.
