Minister of Public Works Leads Road Maintenance Fund Meeting

In a significant gathering held today in the temporary capital of Aden, the Minister of Public Works and Roads, Engineer Hussein Al-Aqrobi, chaired a comprehensive meeting with representatives from various ministries. The primary focus was to discuss strategies for enhancing the performance of the Road Maintenance Fund and executing its projects across several provinces.

Key Discussions and Reports

The meeting included the participation of the Deputy Chairman, Engineer Sami Bahramz, along with members representing the Ministries of Local Administration, Finance, Oil and Minerals, Planning and International Cooperation, Public Works and Roads, and Transport. They reviewed a report from the Internationally Funded Projects Unit, which highlighted the outcomes of the ministerial committee’s recent assessment of the pivotal scales. Additionally, they discussed coordination mechanisms with the Ministry of Finance to bolster the Fund’s performance and ensure the continuation of its programs.

2026 Action Plan and Strategic Projects

The council also examined the projects outlined in the Road Maintenance Fund’s action plan for 2026. They emphasized the need to finalize necessary procedures for submitting these projects to the Tender Committee. Among the strategic projects discussed was the Aqtak-Al-Abr road, which aims to enhance the development and maintenance of the road network across various provinces.

Addressing Local Challenges

The meeting addressed a report from the committee appointed by the Prime Minister regarding the treatment of the curves in the Arqoub area of Abyan Governorate. Furthermore, they discussed the efforts of the General Administration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support planning activities and improve the management of road maintenance projects.

Commitment to Infrastructure Improvement

The attendees underscored the importance of ongoing coordination among relevant entities. They stressed the need to strengthen institutional work to ensure the implementation of the Fund’s plans according to established priorities. This approach aims to enhance road infrastructure and improve the quality of services provided to citizens, aligning with the demands of the upcoming phase.

This meeting marks a crucial step towards advancing road maintenance initiatives and improving transportation infrastructure in Yemen.
