Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, signed an agreement today in the temporary capital of Aden with the Sila Foundation for Development. This agreement aims to implement a project that enhances urban water systems capable of withstanding climate change in the city of Taiz. The project receives funding from the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, with a total cost of 3 million and 478 Saudi Riyals.
The project, which will be executed over a period of twelve months, aims to strengthen the sustainability of the urban water system in Taiz. It will enhance the system’s ability to cope with the impacts of climate change by developing water sources, rehabilitating distribution networks, and expanding the use of renewable energy. Additionally, the project will focus on developing technical capacities and improving water supply efficiency.
Approximately 67,228 individuals will directly benefit from this project. These individuals represent 9,604 families in the districts of Cairo, Al-Mu’afir, and Sala in Taiz Governorate. The project will improve access to safe and sustainable water and enhance the continuity of water supply services.
Al-Sharjabi emphasized that signing the implementation agreement reflects the ministry’s commitment to fulfilling the water needs of Taiz residents. He praised the role of the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen and the Sila Foundation for Development in supporting water projects and improving services for citizens.
For its part, the Sila Foundation for Development expressed its eagerness to achieve the project’s objectives. The foundation aims to enhance the sustainability of water services in Taiz, meeting the needs of the population and contributing to the development of water sector infrastructure to better cope with climate changes.
