In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Water and Environment Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi engaged with Vanetone Tivera, the Head of the Water Division at the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The discussions focused on enhancing collaborative efforts and supporting water projects to improve essential services for citizens.
The meeting highlighted the critical challenges facing the water and sanitation sector amid current conditions. Al-Sharjabi emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian interventions in several provinces. He underscored the importance of ongoing support from international partners, particularly the IOM, to ensure the sustainability of water and sanitation services and alleviate humanitarian burdens.
In response, Tivera reaffirmed the IOM’s commitment to continuing its interventions in the water sector. He expressed support for government efforts aimed at improving services in affected areas. Tivera noted that the organization specifically targets host communities, with a focus on Marib Governorate, which has the highest number of migrants. Additionally, he mentioned plans to expand efforts in Aden and Lahij Governorates, while also addressing climate change-related interventions.
This collaboration between the Yemeni government and the IOM represents a crucial step toward enhancing water and sanitation services in Yemen. As both parties work together, they aim to provide much-needed support to vulnerable communities and improve living conditions across the region.
