Minister of Transport Discusses Civil Aviation Security with American Company “Valar”

Today, in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Transport Mohsen Al-Omari met with Gabriel Osher, the CEO of the American company “Valar,” to discuss arrangements for the second phase of the project aimed at enhancing civil aviation security.

Review of Project Phase One

Both parties reviewed the results of the first phase of the project, which focused on strengthening the capabilities of the civil aviation security and safety system within the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology and Aden International Airport. They also discussed improving readiness and compliance with the international standards and requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Additionally, they addressed the technical and operational needs necessary to complete the project requirements and transition to the second phase.

Current Security Threats

During the meeting, Minister Al-Omari highlighted the current situation in the country, emphasizing the serious threats posed by the Houthi militias to the security and safety of air navigation and transportation in Yemen and the region. He stressed the importance of enhancing the civil aviation security system and improving readiness at airports across various sectors to better serve travelers and elevate the civil aviation sector’s capacity to meet international civil aviation requirements.

Extension of Project Timeline

Gabriel Osher, the CEO of “Valar,” confirmed the company’s agreement to extend the project implementation period by five months. He noted that the second phase will include completing several technical and training activities, supporting risk assessment procedures, and enhancing civil aviation security measures. Osher also mentioned the possibility of expanding the project’s scope to include additional airports.

Discussions on Maritime Readiness

In a separate meeting, Minister Al-Omari discussed the status of the Arab Sea Ports Corporation and the Maritime Affairs Authority in Mukalla. He reviewed the readiness levels of both entities and signed contracts for the implementation of several developmental and rehabilitation projects within the corporation.

Enhancing Port Operations

The meeting included Captain Ali Al-Sabhi, the Deputy Head of the Maritime Affairs and Ports Sector, Fouad Al-Rabaki, the Deputy Chairman of the Arab Sea Ports Corporation, and Dr. Nabil Ben Aifan, the Director General of the Maritime Affairs Authority in Mukalla. They discussed the progress of work within the corporation and authority, the implementation of developmental projects, and the necessary requirements to enhance port readiness and improve service efficiency.

Emphasis on Safety Measures

Minister Al-Omari urged the relevant authorities within the Arab Sea Ports Corporation and the General Authority for Maritime Affairs to take necessary actions and measures across various ports. He called for heightened readiness and vigilance, activating emergency committees, and reinforcing safety procedures in anticipation of any risks or developments due to the ongoing escalation by the Houthi terrorist militias supported by the Iranian regime.
