The Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training, Dr. Anwar Al-Mahri, has instructed vocational, industrial, and commercial institutes in the provinces of Aden, Abyan, and Lahij to accept landmine survivors into formal education programs and short training courses. This initiative aims to accommodate their disabilities and rehabilitation needs.
This directive came during a meeting today with Nasreen Ali, the Secretary-General of the Mine Awareness Association, in the temporary capital of Aden. They discussed the conditions of young landmine survivors and explored ways to provide them with professional rehabilitation, considering their varying ages and abilities to enhance their integration into the labor market.
During the meeting, which also included Deputy Minister Dr. Adil Al-Tahish, Al-Mahri emphasized the ministry’s commitment to expanding vocational education and training opportunities for landmine survivors. He highlighted the importance of enabling them to acquire skills and crafts that match their capabilities, which will help improve their self-reliance and living conditions while supporting their active participation in society.
Al-Mahri pointed out the necessity of coordinating with the Mine Awareness Association and relevant entities to identify the training needs of beneficiaries. He stressed the importance of selecting appropriate programs to ensure that survivors can benefit from available rehabilitation opportunities, thereby opening new avenues for work and productivity.
