In a significant meeting held today in Aden, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Mukhtar Al-Yafai, engaged with Arman Yedjaryan, the Acting Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The discussions focused on enhancing humanitarian partnerships and coordinating efforts to support displaced individuals, refugees, and host communities.
The meeting addressed various mechanisms to support refugees and expand UNHCR projects. Participants explored ways to facilitate the implementation of interventions in liberated provinces. Additionally, they discussed protection issues and emphasized the importance of directing aid to those in need, particularly in host communities that bear the increasing burden of refugee and displaced populations.
Al-Yafai reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to serving all individuals without discrimination. He stressed the importance of maintaining human dignity and enhancing protection for vulnerable groups. He highlighted the necessity of having updated and organized databases for refugees and displaced persons, which serve as a foundation for effective planning and intervention, ensuring that assistance reaches those most in need.
The Minister also mentioned an upcoming consultative meeting scheduled for this month. This meeting will involve relevant government entities, civil society organizations, and international partners. Al-Yafai described this gathering as a crucial opportunity to address challenges, unify perspectives, set priorities, and strengthen institutional coordination in social protection and humanitarian efforts, all rooted in the principle of partnership for humanity.
In response, Yedjaryan affirmed UNHCR’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and all government entities. He expressed the agency’s dedication to contributing to the development of national plans related to refugees and displaced individuals.
This meeting marks a pivotal step towards fostering a coordinated approach to humanitarian assistance in Yemen, ensuring that the needs of the most vulnerable populations are met effectively.
