The Minister of Information welcomes the inclusion of the Houthi Prisoners Committee and its head, Al-Murtadha, on the U.S. sanctions list.

The Yemeni Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, expressed strong support for the recent decision by the U.S. administration to impose sanctions on the so-called “Prisoners Committee” associated with the Houthi militia and its head, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada.

Significant Step Towards Accountability

In a press statement, Al-Eryani described the sanctions as a crucial step towards holding accountable those who have committed heinous crimes against innocent Yemenis. He emphasized that these individuals have blood on their hands and have perpetrated some of the worst atrocities imaginable.

Inhumane Treatment of Detainees

Al-Eryani highlighted the severe mistreatment that Yemenis face in Houthi detention facilities. Reports indicate that detainees endure extreme psychological and physical torture, including electric shocks, starvation, physical assaults, solitary confinement, and even slow death. Furthermore, the Houthi militia has transformed the “Prisoners Committee” into a tool for torture, enforced disappearances, and extortion of detainees’ families.

Urgent Call for International Action

Al-Eryani stressed that the international community can no longer remain silent in the face of the Houthi militia’s brutality, which poses a threat to regional and global security. He asserted that the inclusion of Abdul Qader Al-Murtada on the terrorism list should mark the beginning of more stringent measures. He urged that the current moment calls for decisive actions to halt the ongoing crimes since the militia’s violent coup against the state.

Demanding Global Recognition of Houthi Militia as a Terrorist Group

Al-Eryani called on the international community to take immediate and punitive actions against the Houthi militia. He urged for their classification as a “global terrorist organization” and for the prosecution of their leaders in international criminal courts for the crimes and violations committed against the Yemeni people. He insisted that these perpetrators must not escape justice.

This statement comes as part of ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and to seek justice for victims of Houthi abuses. The Minister’s remarks resonate with calls for a more robust international response to the conflict in Yemen.
