The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism states that the Houthis’ celebration of embassy departures reflects ongoing destruction and international isolation.

Yemen's Minister of Information Condemns Houthi Celebration of U.S. Embassy Departure

Yemen’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, has condemned the Houthi militia’s recent celebration of what they termed the “humiliating escape” of the U.S. Embassy staff from Sana’a on February 11, 2015. This event also included other Arab and foreign diplomatic missions, highlighting the militia’s criminal nature and blatant disregard for international laws and diplomatic treaties.

Houthi Actions Challenge International Norms

In a press statement, Al-Eryani emphasized that the Houthis are not merely a lawless militia; they represent a terrorist force that openly defies international laws and agreements, including the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. This convention underscores the importance of protecting diplomatic missions and ensuring their ability to operate peacefully and securely.

Misrepresentation of U.S. Withdrawal

Al-Eryani pointed out that the Houthis falsely claim they defeated the United States and forced American personnel to leave in a “humiliating” manner. In reality, Washington, along with most foreign and Arab embassies, departed Sana’a due to the presence of a criminal, terrorist, and coup-plotting gang that cannot be engaged with or granted any legal or legitimate status.

Houthi Terrorism Linked to Regional Instability

The minister further noted that the Houthi celebration exposes the falsehood of their claims linking their terrorist actions—such as attacks on commercial vessels and oil tankers in the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden—to events in Gaza. He asserted that these maritime attacks are part of the Houthis’ ongoing strategy to threaten international interests and destabilize regional and global security, directly serving Iran’s destructive agenda in the area.

A Declaration of Isolation

Al-Eryani described the celebration as more than a mere event; it signifies the deadly isolation the Houthis attempt to impose on the Yemeni people. By escalating tensions against diplomatic missions and severing communication channels with the outside world, the Houthis aim to trap Yemen under a regime disconnected from international realities, one that only understands violence and hostility.

Misrepresentation of the Yemeni People

The minister affirmed that this aggressive behavior does not represent the Yemeni people or reflect their long history of respectful diplomatic relations with foreign missions. For decades, these missions, including Western embassies, operated in Sana’a with mutual respect for Yemen’s sovereignty and independence, without facing threats or escalations—until the Houthis transformed the capital into a hub of intimidation for diplomats and foreign workers.

A Call for International Support

Al-Eryani stressed that the Yemeni people, who continue to suffer from the Houthis’ actions and genuinely seek peace and stability, will not accept being held hostage by a militia that deceives them with false victories while isolating them from the world. He emphasized that this proud nation, an integral part of the Arab and Islamic world, will not remain in darkness or be deprived of opportunities and international cooperation needed to address the humanitarian and economic crises threatening their existence.

In conclusion, Al-Eryani’s statements serve as a clarion call for international awareness and support for Yemen, urging the global community to recognize the realities on the ground and assist the Yemeni people in their quest for peace and stability.
