Minister Condemns Houthi Kidnapping of Activist Abdulrahman Al-Baydani

Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, has strongly condemned the abduction of media activist and content creator Abdulrahman Al-Baydani by the Iran-aligned Houthi militia. Al-Baydani was taken from his home in the Al-Suhul area of Ibb Governorate, marking yet another incident in a troubling pattern of kidnappings that have recently affected hundreds of politicians, journalists, and social media activists.

Systematic Violations of Freedoms

In a press statement, Al-Eryani emphasized that these kidnappings represent a new chapter in the systematic violations perpetrated by the Houthi militia against anyone who voices dissent in areas under their control. He highlighted that these acts aim to suppress the truth and restrict freedom of expression. Many individuals who celebrate their national identity and share facts about the militia’s oppressive practices have faced similar fates.

Call for International Action

Al-Eryani urged the international community, including the United Nations and human rights organizations, to take action against these criminal practices. He described the abductions as blatant violations of international law and called for pressure on the Houthi militia to release all journalists and detainees held in their illegal facilities, unconditionally. Furthermore, he insisted on the need to protect these individuals and their rights while advocating for the classification of the Houthi militia as a “global terrorist organization.”

This ongoing situation highlights the urgent need for international attention and intervention to safeguard freedom of expression and protect those who stand against tyranny.
