In a significant meeting held today in Aden, Minister of Electricity and Energy, Engineer Adnan Al-Kaf, engaged with Dirk Jan, the Economic Advisor to the UN Special Envoy for Yemen. The discussion focused on the current state of the electricity sector and strategies for its support and development.
The meeting highlighted the numerous challenges the electricity sector faces amid ongoing difficult conditions. Al-Kaf emphasized the urgent need to rehabilitate and enhance the electrical network’s infrastructure. He also pointed out the importance of gradually transitioning to renewable energy sources. This shift aims to stabilize services and improve supply quality for citizens.
During the discussion, the need to secure daily operational requirements for the “Petro Masila” station was addressed. This includes the provision of 30 oil tankers each day. Additionally, the role of the Saudi fuel grant in improving services was reviewed, showcasing its impact on the sector.
Minister Al-Kaf reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the electricity sector. He stressed the importance of implementing strategic plans aligned with the government’s overall program. The goal is to enhance performance efficiency and improve service quality for the public.
In response, the UN advisor expressed the organization’s commitment to supporting the legitimate government’s efforts in enhancing basic services, particularly in the electricity sector. He underscored the necessity of strengthening joint coordination and intensifying efforts to achieve stability and alleviate citizens’ suffering.
This meeting marks a crucial step towards revitalizing Yemen’s electricity sector, aiming for a more sustainable and reliable energy future.
