Minister of Agriculture Discusses UNDP Projects in Yemen
In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Major General Salem Al-Saqtri, engaged with Zina Ali, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Yemen. The discussion focused on the implementation of UNDP projects within the agricultural and fisheries sectors, as well as future collaboration opportunities aimed at enhancing sustainable development efforts.
Key Projects Under Review
During the meeting, which included several ministry officials and program specialists, participants reviewed the progress of fisheries projects. Notable initiatives included the rehabilitation of the fishing port in Aden, the fish export center in Hadramout, and the development of landing centers across various provinces. Additionally, the conversation highlighted agricultural projects, particularly the Integrated Water Resource Management and Food Security project in the Taiz and Lahij governorates, as well as the agricultural export center and honey market in Hadramout.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Minister Al-Saqtri emphasized the importance of directing support towards projects that yield direct and sustainable impacts. He noted that these initiatives significantly improve the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen while mitigating the effects of drought and climate change. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to the UNDP as a key development partner.

In response, Zina Ali expressed alignment between the UNDP’s vision and the ministry’s leadership. She highlighted the ongoing coordination efforts and the plan for future meetings and visits to support anticipated interventions.
