King Salman Humanitarian Aid Project Achieves Milestone in Yemen Mine Clearance

The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s “Masam” project has successfully cleared 51 minefields in the Al-Dhale’e Governorate, marking significant progress since late 2019. This initiative aims to rid Yemen of landmines and restore safety to affected areas.

Successful Operations by Team 18

According to a recent statement from the center, Team 18 of the “Masam” project has removed over 2,000 anti-personnel mines in Al-Dhale’e. Additionally, the team has disposed of explosive devices and unexploded ordnance. They conducted six destruction operations in remote areas, adhering to international standards to ensure the safety of local residents.

Extensive Land Cleared

The mine clearance operations have covered an area exceeding 234,379 square meters. This includes contaminated lands such as farms, homes, schools, and water wells. The extensive efforts have significantly reduced the threat posed by landmines in these regions.

Community Impact in Qatabah

Residents of Qatabah in Al-Dhale’e have expressed gratitude for the “Masam” project. The initiative has contributed to the gradual return of normalcy in areas previously plagued by landmine threats. Farmers can now access their lands, and schools and health facilities are no longer at risk of destruction.

Ongoing Efforts Across Yemen

The “Masam” project continues its operations in all liberated governorates with 33 engineering teams actively working. Despite these efforts, some regions still harbor landmines that pose a danger to civilian life.

The Threat of Houthi Landmines

The Iranian-backed Houthi militias have indiscriminately planted large quantities of landmines across several governorates. These actions have resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of innocent civilians, highlighting the urgent need for continued mine clearance efforts.

In conclusion, the “Masam” project plays a crucial role in enhancing safety and improving living conditions in Yemen. As the initiative progresses, it remains committed to clearing the land of mines and ensuring a safer environment for all citizens.
