The Marib agent discusses the humanitarian situation in the province with UNICEF and Norwegian Aid organizations.

Humanitarian Crisis in Marib: Urgent Need for Expanded Aid

Marib’s Humanitarian Situation Discussed

Dr. Abdul-Rabbu Muftah, the Deputy Governor of Marib, met today with William Coley, the Child Protection Chief at UNICEF, and Samah Al-Badani, the Project Coordinator at Norwegian People’s Aid. During these separate meetings, they addressed the pressing humanitarian and relief situation in the province. The discussions highlighted the urgent need to expand the scope and scale of interventions by both organizations, given the widening humanitarian gap and the ongoing influx of displaced persons.

Challenges Faced by Displaced Persons

In his first meeting with UNICEF, Dr. Muftah reviewed the implementation of humanitarian projects aimed at assisting the increasing number of displaced individuals. Currently, over 200 camps house these individuals, who face worsening living conditions due to declining support from international organizations and rising inflation rates. The situation demands immediate attention and action to alleviate their suffering.

Partnerships for Humanitarian Aid

During his discussion with Norwegian People’s Aid, Dr. Muftah explored potential partnerships and the organization’s plans for humanitarian interventions. A significant focus was on demining efforts and the clearance of liberated areas previously occupied by Houthi militias. These areas, including villages, farms, institutions, wells, and roads in the Harib and Raghwan districts, pose serious threats to the lives of thousands of innocent civilians and hinder the return of displaced persons.

Call for Increased Humanitarian Efforts\

Throughout both meetings, Dr. Muftah emphasized the critical importance of continuing and expanding humanitarian interventions to alleviate the suffering of displaced individuals in Marib. He noted that the scale of humanitarian needs has reached alarming levels, signaling a potential disaster. Some organizations have begun to withdraw, while others have reduced their interventions, further deepening the humanitarian and living crisis for both displaced persons and the host community.

Urgent Appeal to International Organizations

Dr. Muftah urged international and UN organizations to maintain their commitments and fulfill their roles in providing essential aid and relief efforts. He stressed that delivering assistance remains a humanitarian obligation towards both the displaced population and the host community. The situation in Marib requires immediate action to prevent further deterioration and ensure the safety and well-being of those affected.
