The local authorities in Taiz Governorate have called on citizens, particularly parents, educators, and youth, to resist the coercive recruitment and mobilization campaigns executed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias in several districts of the province. They warned against involvement in sectarian mobilization activities, emphasizing that those who facilitate or support these practices will face legal accountability.
In a statement released by the Media Office of the Governorate, local authorities highlighted their ongoing monitoring of the Houthi militias’ forced recruitment campaigns. They noted attempts to subject educational and community institutions to sectarian indoctrination programs, alter school curricula, and target the minds of children and youth with foreign ideological concepts. These efforts aim to erase national identity and undermine the values of the republican system.
The authorities asserted that these practices reveal the nature of the Houthi project, which seeks to impose a reality through force in areas under its control. Meanwhile, the militias continue to besiege the city of Taiz and bombard residential neighborhoods, resulting in civilian casualties. This occurs despite the Houthi claims of opening roads and facilitating humanitarian aid access.
Local authorities warned citizens about the dangers of engaging in recruitment and mobilization campaigns. They urged everyone to remember the humanitarian tragedies caused by the war, especially among children and school students who have been recruited and sent to the front lines, away from their classrooms and their right to education and a safe life.
The authorities encouraged anyone involved in facilitating these practices or cooperating with the Houthi militias to take advantage of the opportunity for safe return and the general amnesty announced by the state leadership. They urged individuals to cease any support for Houthi activities, stressing that acts of forced recruitment, espionage, and financing of the militias will face legal consequences and penalties as outlined by the Presidential Leadership Council.
The local authorities emphasized that ideas based on monopolizing power and claiming divine right to rule contradict the principles of equal citizenship and the values of the republican system. They affirmed that imposing such ideas by force entrenches discrimination and violates citizens’ rights and freedoms.
The authorities confirmed that Taiz Governorate will remain committed to the republican system and the values of freedom and human dignity. They will not accept the community’s subjugation to coercive mobilization and recruitment projects. They called on citizens to protect their children, safeguard educational and community institutions, and avoid engaging in activities that would prolong the war and deepen the suffering of Yemenis.
