Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate Condemns Kidnapping of Salah Al-Rouhani

The Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate has condemned the ongoing kidnapping of journalist Salah Al-Rouhani by Houthi militia under unclear circumstances. In a recent statement, the syndicate expressed serious concerns regarding Al-Rouhani’s physical and mental safety, as well as his legal rights.

A Gross Violation of Rights and Freedoms

The syndicate characterized these actions as a blatant violation of fundamental rights and freedoms. Furthermore, they highlighted that such practices contradict national laws and international agreements related to freedom of expression and the protection of journalists. The syndicate called for urgent international intervention to pressure the Houthi militia to cease these actions.

Urgent Call for Immediate Release

The syndicate urged authorities to disclose Al-Rouhani’s whereabouts and his health and legal status without delay. They demanded that he be allowed to communicate with his family and lawyer promptly. Additionally, the syndicate emphasized the necessity of his immediate release, stressing the importance of adhering to proper legal procedures in matters concerning freedom of expression.

The Need to Protect Journalists’ Rights

The Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate views attacks on journalists as a direct threat to freedom of expression in Yemen. In this context, they reiterated the importance of respecting journalists’ rights and ensuring they face no threats due to their opinions or writings. Protecting journalists represents a shared responsibility that requires collaborative efforts from all stakeholders involved.
