The United Nations International Committee on the Investigation of Occupied Palestinian Territories has urged nations and international organizations to take decisive action to end Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian lands, including East Jerusalem. The committee detailed how the UN General Assembly and the Security Council can identify and implement specific measures to effectively conclude the occupation as swiftly as possible. They highlighted the importance of adhering to the International Court of Justice’s ruling from July and the UN General Assembly’s resolution passed on September 13, 2024.
Naomi Pillay, the chair of the committee, stated, “The root cause of the prolonged conflict and cycles of violence is the Israeli occupation.” Her remarks underscore the urgent need to address the foundational issues contributing to ongoing tensions in the region.
