Minister of Health Discusses Health Sector Initiatives in Aden

A Productive Meeting with UNOPS Advisor

Dr. Qassem Baheeb, the Minister of Public Health and Population, met with Dr. Khaldoun Saleh, the program advisor from the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. This meeting focused on various issues concerning UNOPS’s interventions in the health sector.

Reviewing Past Achievements and Future Plans

During the meeting, both officials reviewed the accomplishments from previous phases of collaboration. They discussed plans, ideas, and visions related to the fifth phase of their partnership. Key topics included optimal strategies for assessing the infrastructure of health facilities and preparing a study to determine their capacities.

Minister Baheeb emphasized the importance of directing the fifth phase towards training and capacity building. He advocated for supporting health institutes to produce high-quality health professionals. Furthermore, he highlighted the need to complete the infrastructure of Dr. Amin Nasher Institute and to enhance practical training programs to improve students’ knowledge and skills. He also appreciated UNOPS’s positive contributions and the support from the German government and the German Development Bank (KfW) across various health sectors.

In addition to the discussions, Minister Baheeb and the UNOPS team inspected the ongoing construction work at Dr. Amin Nasher Institute. They listened to a presentation by the institute’s dean, Dr. Jamal Amzhib, who outlined the progress made and the urgent needs of the institution.

Inspection of the National Center for Health and Population Education and Media

On another front, Minister Baheeb assessed the progress and preparations at the National Center for Health and Population Education and Media in Aden. He received updates from Dr. Sadiq Al-Sayyadi, the deputy director of the center, regarding the final touches on the renovation of the new facility. Baheeb stressed the importance of completing the project so that the center can effectively fulfill its educational and awareness-raising responsibilities within the community.

The Minister of Health’s engagements today reflect a committed effort to enhance Yemen’s health infrastructure and services. The collaboration with UNOPS and other international partners signifies a positive step towards improving health outcomes in the region.
