Governor Discusses Efforts to Document Socotri Language

On Thursday, Socotra Governor Engineer Raafat Al-Thaqali met with the leadership of the Socotri Language Research and Studies Center. They discussed ongoing efforts to document the Socotri language and the necessary research initiatives associated with it.

Continued Support for the Research Center

During the meeting, which also included the Deputy Governor Raed Al-Juraibi, Al-Thaqali emphasized the local authority’s unwavering support for the center. He highlighted the importance of the center’s role in preserving the Socotri language and implementing programs aimed at reducing the risk of its extinction. The governor expressed his commitment to enhancing the quality and uniqueness of the documentation efforts.

Enhancements at Socotra Port

In a separate directive, Governor Al-Thaqali instructed the Public Works and Roads Office and the Traffic Police to prepare designated parking areas for heavy transport vehicles at Socotra Port.

He stressed the urgency of organizing the site near the port to streamline the entry and exit processes for vehicles. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion at the port entrance and along the main road, ensuring smoother operations.

Governor Al-Thaqali’s proactive measures reflect a commitment to both cultural preservation and infrastructure improvement in Socotra. These efforts aim to foster a more organized environment for transport while safeguarding the unique heritage of the Socotri language.
