Governor of Shabwa Lays Foundation Stone for Water Expansion Project
In a significant development for the residents of Aqt, Governor Awad bin al-Wazir of Shabwa laid the foundation stone today for a water expansion project. This initiative aims to enhance water transportation from the Al-Awsha fields in the Nasab district to the older and newer neighborhoods of Aqt. The project receives funding from the Kuwait-based International Islamic Charitable Organization and will be executed by the Human Development Communication Foundation.
Project Details
The project entails the construction of a new water supply line, measuring four kilometers in length and ten inches in diameter. This new infrastructure will strengthen the water transportation system from the fields, ensuring a more stable service and expanding coverage for citizens in the targeted neighborhoods.
Acknowledgment of Support
Following the foundation stone ceremony, Governor Awad praised Kuwait for its ongoing support through humanitarian and developmental institutions. He highlighted the success of recent interventions in the three water fields supplying Aqt, which have improved the efficiency of the city’s water supply and contributed to a relative stabilization of services.
Collaboration with Local Authorities
Dr. Imad Abdulrahim, Executive Director of the Human Development Communication Foundation, expressed gratitude for the local authority’s support and the cooperation of citizens in implementing projects funded by Kuwait.
Discussion on Sustainable Water Resource Management
In a related meeting, Governor Awad discussed with the directors of the Agriculture and Irrigation Office, Fahd Mabrouk, and the Rural Water Office, Marwan Barwis, ways to expand sustainable water resource management projects to include the Nakhil Valley and Mujar Valley in the Al-Rawda district.
Addressing Environmental Challenges
The meeting also addressed challenges faced by the upper regions of Wadi Hajar due to cumulative effects of floods and climate change. These issues have damaged irrigation facilities, agricultural land, and water sources in the villages of Nakhil and Mujar. The discussions focused on necessary interventions to rehabilitate water infrastructure and preserve natural resources.
Opportunities for Integrated Water Resource Management
Participants reviewed opportunities to benefit from the Integrated Water Resource Management project implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). This initiative aims to incorporate the targeted areas into the project’s programs and expand its developmental services.
Commitment to Agricultural Stability
Governor Awad emphasized the importance of supporting efforts to protect water resources and enhance agricultural stability in rural areas of the province. He noted that developing valleys and agricultural regions remains a priority for the local authority, given their vital role in supporting food security and improving living standards.
