The Yemeni government has urged the United Nations Security Council to condemn the Houthi militia’s attacks on government facilities, public services, residential areas, and civilian sites. The government demands an end to these assaults and accountability for the consequences of such actions.
This call to action follows two letters sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council for October. These letters address the recent Houthi escalation, particularly the attack on the Maashiq Presidential Palace in the temporary capital, Aden.
On October 15, the Houthi militia executed an attack using missiles and drones, resulting in the deaths of five security personnel and injuring 16 others. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the targeting of the presidential and governmental headquarters as a serious escalation that threatens Yemen’s security and stability.
The ministry also highlighted other Houthi attacks on residential neighborhoods and displaced persons’ gatherings in Marib, as well as assaults on civilians in Taiz and Lahij. Additionally, the militia has repeatedly targeted Aden International Airport.
The Yemeni government emphasized the necessity of fully implementing Security Council Resolutions 2140 and 2216. It called for practical measures to prevent the flow of weapons, missiles, and drones to the Houthi militia and urged enhanced international cooperation with the Yemeni government to confront these threats.
