Yemeni Foreign Minister Addresses Press on Houthi Escalation and Foreign Support
Today, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, held a press conference in Paris, France. During this meeting, she discussed the latest developments in Yemen, focusing on the Houthi escalation and the role of foreign elements supporting the militia.
Identification of Foreign Experts Supporting Houthis
The Foreign Minister confirmed that security agencies have identified 21 foreign experts directly working with the Houthi terrorist militia. Among these experts, 14 belong to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, while 7 are affiliated with Hezbollah from Lebanon. She emphasized that these individuals form part of a network of experts involved in supporting the militia’s military operations and terrorist attacks.
Houthi Dependency on Foreign Elements
Dr. Al-Zouba explained that the militia’s reliance on foreign personnel highlights its military decision-making being beholden to external influences. She noted that the Houthis exploit Yemeni territory to further Iranian agendas. Furthermore, these foreign elements have contributed to planning, managing operations, and enhancing the militia’s military capabilities, leading to increased attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Violations of Yemeni Sovereignty
The Foreign Minister stressed that foreign military interventions represent a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen and international law. She pointed out that the recent escalation has displaced over a quarter of a million people, while the flow of weapons and experts to the militias continues unabated.
Humanitarian Impact and Civilian Targeting
Dr. Al-Zouba highlighted the ongoing targeting of civilians and infrastructure, particularly the siege of Taiz city. This situation has resulted in severe humanitarian consequences, especially for women, children, and the sick. She also addressed serious human rights violations, including child recruitment and the planting of anti-personnel mines.
Call for International Action
The Foreign Minister urged the international community and the United Nations Security Council to unify efforts to list the Houthi militias as international terrorist organizations. She called for action against their networks and incitement platforms, as well as for decisive measures to halt the flow of weapons and supporting experts.
