Yemeni Foreign Minister Discusses Bilateral Relations with Spanish Ambassador

In a recent meeting, Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba engaged with Javier Carbajosa, the non-resident Ambassador of Spain to Yemen. The two officials explored the current state of bilateral relations and discussed ways to enhance and develop cooperation between their nations.

Appreciation for Spanish Support

Minister Al-Zouba expressed her gratitude for Spain’s supportive stance towards Yemen. She emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral ties and fostering collaboration that serves the mutual interests of both countries.

Current Situation in Yemen

During the discussion, Al-Zouba provided an overview of the evolving situation in Yemen. She highlighted the recent escalation of Houthi activities along the western coast, which poses a significant threat to maritime security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, as well as to international trade routes.

Addressing Security Concerns

The meeting also addressed the risks associated with smuggling activities and organized crime. Al-Zouba pointed out the connections between the Houthi militia and extremist groups, stressing the implications for Yemen’s security, regional stability, and international maritime corridors.

Spain’s Continued Support for Yemen

Ambassador Carbajosa reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to supporting the Presidential Leadership Council, led by President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, and the Yemeni government. He reiterated Spain’s dedication to Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, highlighting the importance of empowering state institutions to fulfill their responsibilities.

Concerns Over Maritime Security

Carbajosa also voiced Spain’s concerns regarding the threats posed by the Houthi militia to international navigation security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab. He underscored the strategic importance of these maritime routes for Spain, Europe, and the international community.

This meeting reflects the ongoing dialogue between Yemen and Spain, aiming to strengthen their partnership and address pressing security challenges in the region.
