The Foreign Minister briefs her German counterpart on the Houthi escalation and its local, regional, and international implications.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Discusses Bilateral Relations with Germany

Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba held a phone conversation today with German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul. They discussed the bilateral relations between their two friendly nations and explored ways to enhance these ties. The conversation also addressed the current situation in Yemen and the implications of the Houthi escalation on regional security and international maritime safety.

Houthi Escalation and Its Impact

During the call, Minister Al-Zouba informed her German counterpart about the developments regarding the escalation of Houthi terrorist militias in the western coast, Mocha, and Bab al-Mandab. She highlighted the local, regional, and international repercussions of these actions. Al-Zouba emphasized that the Yemeni government remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities to restore state institutions and assert control over all territories. She stressed the importance of preventing Yemen from becoming a platform for threatening neighboring countries, maritime routes, and international trade.

Call for Sustainable Solutions

Al-Zouba underscored that the ongoing Houthi escalation, supported by the Iranian regime, confirms that sustainable solutions to sources of threat begin with empowering the Yemeni state. She called for halting the flow of weapons, technologies, and expertise to the militias, which would enhance the security of Yemen, the region, and maritime routes.

Humanitarian Crisis and Response

The minister also pointed out the worsening humanitarian crisis due to recent Houthi attacks. These attacks have included shelling populated areas and displacement camps, as well as targeting civilians during their flight. She urged for enhanced humanitarian responses and support for government and local authorities in meeting the needs of displaced individuals and affected communities. Al-Zouba called for ensuring access to essential services and humanitarian aid.

Germany’s Support for Yemen

Minister Al-Zouba expressed her appreciation for Germany’s supportive stance towards the Yemeni government, its unity, and sovereignty. She acknowledged Germany’s condemnation of Houthi attacks, along with its humanitarian and developmental support, and its contributions to European efforts to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

Germany’s Commitment to Yemen

In response, German Foreign Minister Wadephul affirmed his country’s support for the Yemeni government in facing Houthi attacks. He warned that continued escalation would further destabilize Yemen and the region. Wadephul reiterated Germany’s commitment to enhancing its support for the Yemeni people and the legitimate government, particularly in the areas of maritime security and strengthening the capabilities of the Yemeni Coast Guard to protect navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
