Minister of Finance Discusses Economic Priorities with UNFPA Representative

In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Finance Marwan Faraj bin Ghanem engaged with Francesco Galatibri, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The discussion focused on how UNFPA can support Yemen’s social and economic priorities.

Exploring Collaborative Opportunities

During the meeting, both parties explored potential collaborations that could enhance the Ministry of Finance’s responsibilities. They specifically discussed leveraging UNFPA’s support for public investment decisions based on demographic data. Additionally, they examined partnerships between the public and private sectors, financing environments, and mechanisms for managing international aid.

UNFPA’s Initiatives in Yemen

The meeting also highlighted UNFPA’s ongoing initiatives in Yemen. These initiatives include providing health services to women, supporting survivors of violence, assisting families during natural disasters, rehabilitating health warehouses, supplying medical resources, addressing malnutrition crises, and establishing training and rehabilitation centers.

Commitment to Strengthening Cooperation

Minister bin Ghanem emphasized the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and coordination with UNFPA. He praised the fund’s interventions and programs that support the Yemeni population. Furthermore, he addressed the urgent economic priorities facing Yemen during this challenging period, underscoring the importance of a robust partnership between the government and UNFPA to ensure effective management of international aid and a conducive financing environment.

UNFPA’s Continued Support

In response, Galatibri reaffirmed UNFPA’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with the government and the Ministry of Finance. He assured that the fund would continue implementing various projects and providing support to all targeted groups. Galatibri also expressed the intention to expand UNFPA’s activities to maximize the benefits of its interventions across Yemen.

This meeting marks a crucial step in aligning efforts between the Yemeni government and UNFPA to address the pressing social and economic challenges facing the country.
