The European Union has confirmed that North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile last Saturday constitutes a new violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. This action poses a significant threat to regional and international security amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Christian Wigand, the EU’s spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, expressed the Union’s full solidarity with its partners in the region, particularly South Korea and Japan, in light of these serious developments.
Wigand emphasized that North Korea must cease its unlawful activities that could escalate tensions. He urged the country to adhere to its international obligations and return to a meaningful diplomatic process, which he identified as the only path to achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
